Rules & Regulations, Timetable and Study Group/Class Chart‏

Hi Class/Parents,

Most of you were given the Rules & Regulation (R&R) in school and the class timetable. For the reference of your parents (esp those who didn't attend the mee-the-parents session), please find the R&R and timetable in the attached files. I had attached our study group and class organization chart also. I had communicated to all class leaders the class expectations and their roles for their respective group members.

Check out your email to look at the charts, timetable and rules.
Do take note of it.

OUTSTANDING Dragon Boat Consent Forms‏

Hi Leaders,

I received 18 consent forms from Kamarul a while back. Obviously, 18 students did not submit their consent form.

As group leaders, you have to monitor closely on your group members and those who did not submit their consent form. I'll leave it to you on how you can collect and remind (thru sms, email) your members.

Your credits (CIP points) and recommendations in the future will depend on how reliable you are as a leader and how your group is managed.

Make sure that you have all the outstanding consent form from your members by Monday (23 May).

MediaCorp News Roving DV 2008 - open for submisison of entries‏

Hi Class,

This is one way to enhance your communication skills. You may consider joining this contest organized by MediaCorp. Please check the email below.
_____________________________________________________________________

Dear Principals and Teachers,

Greetings from MediaCorp! As announced in my email on 4 Feb 2008, Roving DV will be back this year. I hope your students have been busy shooting, editing and scripting their news clips, for we are now calling for entries for Roving DV 2008, to be broadcast on Channel NewsAsia. We hope this can be from August 2008 onwards.

This year, Roving DV and DV Xiao Yuan will be run as separate competitions with separate timelines. Details on DV Xiao Yuan will be announced by my colleagues from Chinese News.

For Roving DV 2008, there will be two categories:
Category 1 - Primary schools only
Category 2 - Secondary schools, Junior Colleges and ITEs

And these are the judging criteria:
1. News value 15%
2. Scripting 25%
3. Camera skills 25%
4. Editing 25%
5. Voicing 10%

Closing date is 22 Sep 2008, and details on the prizes, shortlisitng of finalists and SMS voting will be announced later.

You may like to know, last year saw a big jump in the number of entries received, up from 78 (2006) to 170 (2007) for both language categories. The students’ enthusiasm was heartwarming; having a national platform to showcase their work was clearly an empowering experience. I hope they’ll enjoy Roving DV this year, and I look forward to receiving your schools’ entries.

Attached are guidelines for Roving DV 2008 and an entry form. More details are available on www.channelnewsasia.com/rovingdv. If you have any queries, do email me at rovingdv@channelnewsasia.com . I may put your queries and my responses on our Roving DV website as an FAQ.

To all our student journalists out there - happy reporting!

Class KA - Organization Chart (Team & Study Group)‏

Hi Class,

Please refer to the attached file for the team we had formed last week. No one is allowed to change his or her team. As communicated earlier, the main reason why I didn't asked you to choose your own group is simply because this is the scenario when you are out of ITE. You have to work with all kind of people with different backgrounds, culture and values either in your future job or in Poly.

This is a good start for everyone to work in a team and bring to the table a successful team. If you read the classified ads, they always require you to have a good interpersonal skills, teamwork and should be resourceful.

At the end of two years, lets see who will be the most successful team in our class.

Please decide who will be the leader in your group. If you can not decide again then I will nominate. For those who were absent, I had randomly distributed you to the groups.

Public Apology for Smoking Offence

Hi Class,

For Marcus and Kah Chung - as mentioned below by the discipline committee, you need to do public apology to 5 classes for your smoking offence.

Fill-up and print the public apology template below and rehearse before I bring you to 5 classes.

To all of you, I had communicated to you ON THE VERY FIRST DAY of school on the rules and regulations but some of you really want to test the system.

This has to stop because it's not only you that is affected in the offence rather, your parents will receive letters (ex Health Sciences Authority + pay fine for smoking cases, monthly letter for poor attendance etc), you are projecting bad image for the school and yourself(esp our class since this is just the first month) and it's not really good for your profile when we do write-up for you in the future for awards (LKY, NYAA, COM etc), grooming courses, Poly admission, job applications, scholarship and bursaries.

As I always say, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEARN your lesson the HARD WAY. Follow all the rules and regulations and everything will go smoothly for your 2 yrs of study here in ITE. Your teachers, myself and section heads are not that free in catching you and writing reports for your misbehavior so if you screw up, you really have to pay the hard way.

Remember class, I have 36 people in class to attend to. I'd rather spend my time and effort in working on our success rate (good and excellent GPAs) and how each of you will be groom so you can achieve your target to progress to Poly rather than wasting my time to all this attendance problems and violation of rules in school.

Lets work together for your success!

Defamation, Intimidation, Insult and Annoyance‏

Hi class,

When you are brought to court because of an offense that you are unaware of, can you claim that you don't know the law???

Please take note: Ignorance of the Law IS NO EXCUSE for prosecution in court!!! As communicated to you earlier, I would like you to read the details of Singapore Law on defamation (harm to the reputation of another person), intimidation, insult and annoyance in these URLs:

1.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_Code_%28Singapore%29#Chapter_XXI:_Defamation
2.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_Code_%28Singapore29#Chapter_XXII:_Criminal_intimidation.2C_insult_and_annoyance

I need you to understand the law on insult, intimidation and annoyance due to the recent incident on our blog regarding the posting of INAPPROPRIATE words or comments. If you think this is fun to do, please think twice. You are laughing your way to jail. The evidence is very strong against you since you post it in the blog where it is accessible by anyone.

Considering there’s no law on this, do you think there’s something wrong in putting up these inappropriate comments to another person? If you say that there’s nothing wrong, you are telling me that you are thinking like a 7 yr old boy or girl who needs guidance everyday. Class, I sincerely believe that you are all young adults who can think twice before doing something and be sensible to other’s feeling.

You have brothers or sisters and even yourself who can have possible disability or disadvantage to physical appearance etc in the future due to accident, medication or serious illness. Do you think it’s fair to be mock or laugh by other people? Or should you wish that the people around you are more considerate and kind to understand your situation? Whatever you believe in, remember the universal truth: good deeds to others begets good deeds or even more reward or blessing while bad deeds begets bad rewards and that includes your next life.

The next time that any parent, teachers or even the public will complain about any inappropriate behavior, I will not handle your case anymore. It will be handled straight away by the police and I will let you deal with it with your parents.

You don’t have to learn the hard way to know what is right or wrong. The stupid things you do now might costs you a lot especially your future and also your family. It will be too late by then… THINK and THINK 10x before you do things. There's a bright future for all of you..
